Nampa Public library taking steps to sanitize, stress importance of handwashing

The Nampa Public Libary is doing all it can to stay ahead of the potential for a Coronavirus outbreak in the Treasure Valley.

Claire Connley, Nampa Public Library director, told CBS2 that the library had a COVID-19 planning meeting on Tuesday to help prepare.

"We have posters (from the CDC) about the disease and the importance of handwashing in all of our restrooms and elsewhere in the library," Connley said. "We are putting together a schedule concerning cleaning public and staff computers, children’s toys and other surfaces that will be complete tomorrow. We have hand sanitizer, wipes and gloves and are ordering more as they become available."

The library has also discussed whether it may have to close if an outbreak occurs.

"...hopefully unlikely, but we need to be proactive," Connley said.

The Meridian Library District, too, has stepped up its cleaning efforts.

Allison Maier told CBS2 that the employees have increased cleaning at its locations, "especially on door handles, computer keyboards, and other surfaces that people frequently touch." The library is also encouraging library patrons and employees to stay home if they have symptoms or are feeling sick.

As of March 10, no positive reports of Coronavirus have been reported in Idaho.
